Self care/セルフケア（Mixed media, Dimension variable, 2024）

今作の制作のきっかけは、自宅の敷地内で育てていた観葉植物の鉢植えの中に雑草が生えていたことに由来する。観葉植物などと比べ、雑草は人間の関心の外にある。その鉢植えはいいかえれば国境、閉鎖的なコミュニティであり、人間により関心をかけられている特定の種のみがその土地で生きることが許される。しかしながら今私の目の前にあるこの鉢植えの中では、観葉植物と違う種である雑草は共存しているように見える。

本作では、生活する上で身近にある物や些細な事象に焦点をあて、そこから想起する社会における人々の関心・無関心のあり方、その暴力性に関するインスタレーション作品を展開する。性別、民族、国境等のアイデンティティによるカテゴライズ化をすり抜けるプラクティスとして、分断が進む今日的な世界に応答する。

The event that lead to this artwork came from a weed growing in a potted houseplant that was growing on his property. Compared to houseplants, weeds are outside of human interest. The potted plant is, in other words, a border, a closed community, where only certain species that are of interest to humans are allowed to live. However, in this potted plant in front of me now, houseplants and weeds, which are different species, seem to coexist.

In this work, the artist focuses on familiar objects and trivial events in our daily lives, and develops an installation work about the nature of people's interest or indifference in society and its violence, as evoked by these events. As a practice that slips past categorization by gender, ethnicity, national borders, and other identities, the work responds to today's increasingly divided world.





















展覧会ステートメント（テキスト＝藤井智也, 高橋ちかや）

セルフケア（self care）とは、生活および健康を維持するために、身体的、精神的に関わらず、自分自身をケアすること、すなわち自分自身で世話をする・面倒を見ることである。基本的にはこうしなければならないというものは無く、自分の特性にあわせてできる事を行なっていくことがセルフケアの基本とされている。

通常、美術の展覧会においては、作家が完成させた作品を展示し、鑑賞者がそれら作品を鑑賞するという形態をとる。今回は、作品を完成と定義する前段階の形態も”作品”として捉えることで、「完成/未完成」という主観的な定義を一度紐解く。制作者は完成した作品を展示しなければならないというしがらみを緩和させ、作品の枝分かれの可能性を許容する。鑑賞者においては、完成された作品を観て作家の意図を探る、思考を巡らすという通常の鑑賞体験とは異なる作品の捉え方を可能とし、今後変化するであろう作品の道筋に介入する余地が開かれる。

本展は展覧会の中でのさまざまな役割を少しばかり緩く捉えることで、凝り固まった頭を解す試みである。
